Fab Melo scored 32 points and pulled down nine rebounds, 6 of them on the offensive glass, to lead the visiting Maine Red Claws over the Idaho Stampeders 108-94 in D-League action Wednesday night.
Melo also blocked 9 shots, finishing the game just 1 board and 1 block shy of a triple-double for the Red Claws who improved to 8-4 on the season.
DaJuan Summers poured in 21 more and crashed the boards for 10. Guard Chamberlain Oguchi chipped in with 16 points while Micah Downs impressed with a solid stat line of 11 points and 8 boards togo along with 6 assists and five steals.
Idaho was paced by Justin Holliday with 21 points. Coby Karl scored 16 and dished out 7 dimes while Justin Harper had 18 and 8 boards for the 1-11 Stampeders.
The Stampeders came out hot to take an early lead but fell behind Maine as the Red Claws came back with a 31 point second quarter to take a 6 point halftime lead. Idaho hung tough on their home court, down by just 3 to start the 4th quarter, but then Maine blew the game open behind Melo’s defense and a 10-10 performance from the free throw line to ice the game.
Maine heads to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to take on the Skyforce on both Friday and Saturday nights, then return home for a 1:00pm Monday matinee against the Springfield Armor. Both games in Sioux Falls will be broadcast live on YouTube at 8:00pm EST.
