The New England Patriots released their official week 7 injury report on Friday and it’s fair to say that they are more than just banged up, they’re decimated with key injuries all over the field. The potential return of Rob Gronkowski could pay big dividends for a team in need.
Obviously linebacker Jerod Mayo will not play after being placed on season ending injury reserve earlier this week. Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly, running back Leon Washington and wide receiver Danny Amendola are both being ruled out as well.
Aqib Talib is a wildcard. Friday was his lone practice of the week, as he’s nursing a bad hip. He’s listed as doubtful and will likely be a game time decision.
Although Rob Gronkowski still remains the talk of the town. It now seems more likely than it’s ever been that he’ll play considering his agent Drew Rosenhaus reported that Gronkowski had been cleared to return by his doctors.
But it’s still unclear as to whether he’ll be a participant against the Jets. He’s listed as questionable on the injury report. His presence on the field will instantaneously change the face of the Patriots offense, giving them a legitimate big play weapon.
The Patriots were forced to name two new defensive captains in wake of the slew of injuries suffered in recent weeks. The team announced that Devin McCourty and Rob Ninkovich would replace Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork as the defensive captains.
