Old friend Al Jefferson had his way with his former team, leading the Bobcats past the Celtics on Wednesday, 89-83. Jefferson recorded a double-double, scoring 22 points and hauling down 11 rebounds. Boston’s four-game winning streak was snapped as a result.
Jeff Green was able to notch 19 points and Jordan Crawford added 16, but it was all for not. Jared Sullinger’s absence was well documented, as the Celtics lacked the physical interior presence needed to combat Jefferson. Sullinger was sidelined due to a bruised right knee.
The Celtics were within striking distance, cutting the Bobcats second-half lead to three on two separate occasions. With the score 85-83, Al Jefferson grabbed a key offensive rebound and then laid it in with only seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. Boston failed to score following the bucket.
Brad Steven’s squad will welcome the Portland Trailblazers to town on Friday night.
