The Patriots defense was dealt yet another bad blow on Monday. The club announced that linebacker Brandon Spikes has been placed on season-ending injured reserve with a knee ailment.
Spikes has battled though knee problems all season.
Without question, Spikes has been a force in the middle for New England, as the fourth-year veteran racked up 134 tackles in the regular season. He’s also notched 45 tackles in six playoff games since being drafted by the Patriots in 2010.
With Jerod Mayo and Vince Wilfork already sidelined for the season, Bill Belichick’s front seven will be even more hard-pressed moving forward.
Linebackers Dane Fletcher and Jamie Collins will now be thrust into the spotlight in order to fill a large pair of shoes.
It’s yet to be determined as to whether or not the team will look to bring in a body from the outside to help bolster the unit.
