Boston Bruins: David Krejci, Zdeno Chara to battle in qualification playoff

Two Boston Bruins will be in action on Tuesday at the Sochi Winter Olympics. They happen to be playing one another.

David Krejci and the Czech Republic will battle Zdeno Chara and Slovakia in a qualification playoff at Shayba Arena in Sochi, Russia. The Czech’s posted a 1-2 record in the preliminary  round while Slovakia went 0-3. The winner will advance to take on the United States in a quarterfinal showdown on Wednesday.

Krejci has been rendered largely ineffective so far. Chara has been his normal self. The big man has been logging high minutes and shutting down elite forwards.

Slovakia was destroyed by the USA in their opening game, 7-1. The Czech Republic has not yet faced them.

The other qualification round games are as follows: Slovenia vs. Austria, Russia vs. Norway, Switzerland vs. Latvia. These games will all take place on Tuesday as well.

Tuukka Rask of Finland, Patrice Bergeron of Canada, and Loui Eriksson of Sweden all earned a bye and are awaiting opponents for their quarterfinal game. The USA also earned a bye.

Both Canada and the USA are slated to play their quarterfinal games at the exact same time on Wednesday, but in seperate arenas of course. It will be a delightful day for hockey enthusiasts.

As it stands right now, Canada, the USA, and Sweden are all favorited to medal.

From here on out it’s win or go home. The elimination rounds are now upon us. The stakes are raised. Each and every bounce of the puck is magnified. Sit back, buckle up, and enjoy.
