Quite an ugly game last night as the Boston Celtics fell to the Los Angeles Lakers 101-92. The Celts were outscored by 20 in the fourth quarter, a number that is so embarrassing, I am not sure why I even bothered writing about it. Former Celtic MarShon Brooks had a mini revenge game with 14 points and new acquisition Kent Bazemore scored 15 of his own. Here are some more thoughts about the game:
- A poor shooting night for the C’s as they shot under 40% for the game. It wasn’t the Lakers defense that forced them to shoot like this. Jeff Green struggled to get into any type of rhythm and Rajon Rondo missed about everything. Brandon Bass was 8-15 for the night and he easily had the best shooting night of anyone who mattered.
- Kelly Olynyk only played 18 minutes tonight, which was a bit surprising to me. He was lost on defense and struggled with his jumper, but I think the Celtics have more to gain with him playing more and say Gerald Wallace or Bass playing a few less minutes a night.
- Joel Anthony was a DNP-Coaching Decision. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Celtics buy him out by the end of next week and Anthony heads back to either Miami, or maybe to the other LA team.
- Even after his impressive performance today, Brooks is still never going to get consistent minutes in this league until he learns how to play defense. Put it this way, I don’t think Danny Ainge thinks trading Brooks will ever come back to haunt him. Not in any lifetime.
