No video tribute for Gerald Green. However, the Phoenix Suns will leave Boston with a win after defeating the Boston Celtics 87-80 on Friday night. The Celts celebrated St. Patrick’s Day with their “stylish” jerseys last night. Personally, I was not a fan of these, but I did love the shorts and am already looking to get a pair of my own. The C’s got off to a slow start, but played evenly with the Suns for three quarters, and more importantly, played a good game of basketball that resulted in another loss, bringing us closer to the bottom of the league! Now some more thoughts about last night:
- Not only was there no video tribute for Green (Gerald) last night, but he also received a benching. Eric Bledsoe made his first start since an injury kept him sidelined for a couple of months, forcing Green to the bench. Bledsoe finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds in his return. Green had been playing fantastic basketball, the best of his career. He is a personal favorite of mine and I hope he gets more minutes than he did last night.
- The Celtics are in the midst of quite the shooting slump. 31% from the field isn’t going to win basketball games, especially with all of the key misses in the final three minutes of the game. 14% from beyond the arc is pretty awful…and with 21 total attempts from there last night…let’s just not talk about it.
- Speaking of awful shooting. Jeff Green has got to find his stroke before the season ends. He has been pitiful in their last three games overall, and that includes a decent effort against the Knicks this week. I like his aggression, but it’s hard to watch him take so many shots without any going in. It’s just depressing.
- Screw it. Here is a YouTube video of Gerald Green’s best dunks of his career.(Note: they may be a bit outdated).
