You don’t need a routing number or an account number to be part of the Boston Celtic’s tank bank? Oh what is a tank bank you ask? It is a place where you can store the key losses for the 2013-14 Boston Celtics. Losses that ultimately will help them drop further into the standings to help them get more ping pong balls at this year’s draft lottery. Last night’s thriller against the New Orleans Pelicans was a tremendous deposit into the tank bank for its entertainment value.
Tonight, the Boston Celtics take on the Dallas Mavericks in what should be another game for the tank bank. The Mavs are fighting for a playoff spot in the Western Conference, and can finish anywhere from 5th seed to missing the postseason. That means they need to win tonight to keep their momentum going, because all of those teams vying for the final few playoff positions are quite talented, and will probably take advantage of any Eastern Conference games they may have.
The Celtics are just going to play hard. Obviously, we want them to keep losing so that we land in that top 4 zone for this year’s draft, but we don’t want to be depressed watching our team slug their way through games where they don’t “want” to win. Last night was a perfect example of the kind of game Celtic fans want to watch.
Both teams played last night, so we may see some sloppy basketball, especially from a Celtics team that loves to turn the ball over. The Mavs will feature Dirk Nowitzki against the C’s front line tonight, and look for the tandem of Devin Harris and Brandon Wright to have a good game against the Celtic reserves. Wright has looked really good as of late, and his athleticism and touch around the hoop have given back-up bigs fits.
As for the C’s, Jeff Green has to keep last night’s performance rolling into tonight. Shawn Marion will most likely have the pleasure of guarding Green, and he can’t let a slow start get to him if he doesn’t come out of the gates blazing. Avery Bradley will chase either Monta Ellis or Jose Calderon around tonight, which will be a great test for that ankle of his. I like Kelly Olynyk to have a big game tonight, as he should pose a problem for whatever big guards him tonight. I am hoping it is going to be Wright ,so Olynyk can pull him away from the hoop.
Prediction: Mavs 98, Celtics 90
