The 2014 season started with more of a whimper than a bang. The Boston Red Sox look to avenge their 2-1 opening day loss to the Baltimore Orioles and send veteran John Lackey to the mound to get the W. The Orioles will counter with a new face. Ubaldo Jimenez makes his debut with the O’s and is thrown directly into the American League East fire.
In one start against the Red Sox last season, Jimenez was lit up. He surrendered seven earned runs in under two innings of work, leaving him with a poor taste in his mouth against this Sox lineup. Though the card is a bit different, many of the Red Sox players have good career numbers against Jimenez and are probably chomping at the bit to get a crack at him today.
Lackey was solid in his performances against the Orioles last season. In 29.1 IP, Lackey compiled a 3.34 ERA and even went the distance in one of his four starts against the club. He has managed to keep his slender frame from last season, so the expectations for year reminiscent of 2013 are certainly there for Lackey.
