About Last Night: Boston Celtics Vs. Washington Wizards

Last night, the Washington Wizards starters got to spend the fourth quarter on the bench after they blew out the Boston Celtics 118-92. Each Washington starter scored in double figures, led by The Polish Hammer Marcin Gortat, who finished with 22 points. The C’s starters looked awful, which has become a trend as of late. Jeff Green and Rajon Rondo combined to shoot 9-26, and Rondo had seven turnovers in one of his worst games in recent memory. Here are some more thoughts about last night’s fiasco:

  • Jared Sullinger and Kelly Olynyk combined for 39 points, mainly in garbage time. The bench looked good on offense, but in a game that wasn’t close late in the third quarter, there wasn’t much impetus to play defense.
  • Avery Bradley didn’t play due to a strained right achilles tendon. The man’s feet and ankles are a mess. He hasn’t been able to stay healthy during his short NBA career. I love his game, but how much money can you give to someone that spends as much time on the sideline as the coach. Maybe they can get a bargain in a new deal with Bradley in the coming years, but they shouldn’t overspend for him when his contract is up.
  • Rondo out-rebounded Brandon Bass, Kris Humphries, and Jeff Green…combined! Those three managed to grab three rebounds in total while Rondo had seven. That is an embarrassing number for that front line. They were manhandled by Gortat and company.
  • The Wizards shot 62.5% from the field, easily the worst number the Celtic defense has given up this year. In the past few weeks, these C’s look very unmotivated. I don’t blame Brad Stevens because he has such an arduous task in front of him. The real test will be next year if he has a very similar group back to play another 82 underwhelming games.
