The Red Sox lost another tough one last night in 11 innings. Clay Buchholz got roughed up in his season debut giving up six earned runs on 13 hits in four and a third innings. They continued to produce at the plate, scoring six runs. Mike Napoli hit his second home run of the young season with a three run bomb in the third inning.
Will Middlebrooks, who has gotten off to a solid start this season was a late scratch with a right calf cramp last night. He was replaced by Jonathan Herrera, and is out of the lineup again today.
Today’s pitching matchup is Jon Lester against Yovani Gallardo. Lester pitched well in Baltimore giving up two earned runs with eight strikeouts in seven innings of work. Gallardo also had a solid first outing against the Braves, with four strikeouts in six innings and not allowing a run. This should be a pitcher’s duel with each team’s ace on the mound. I wouldn’t expect another 7-6 game today.
