Game #81: Buffalo Sabres (21-50-9) vs. Boston Bruins (53-18-9)
Location: TD Garden
Time: 12:30 p.m.
TV/Radio: NESNPLUS/98.5 The Sports Hub
The Boston Bruins will host the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday afternoon at TD Garden in what will be their final regular season home game of the season. It will be the fifth and final meeting of the year between these Atlantic Division rivals. The two teams have split the previous four contests.
Boston will not only be looking to end a two game skid, but they can also lock up the Presidents’ Trophy with a win. Achieving such a feat would give the Bruins home-ice advantage throughout the entire Stanley Cup Playoffs. Buffalo is not postseason bound.
The Sabres last defeated the Bruins back on Feb. 26. It was a victory that came prior to Boston’s dominant ascension to the top of the NHL standings. Buffalo is 1-8-1 in their last 10 games. Rookie goalie Matt Hackett is expected in net.
Tuukka Rask will likely start in net for the Bruins. Chad Johnson started Thursday night in a shootout loss up in Winnipeg. Johnson will likely get the nod on Sunday in Boston’s regular season finale opposite New Jersey.
It’s unclear as to what Claude Juilen’s lineup will look like come face-off. He’s consistently been resting different players on a nightly basis in recent games. Patrice Bergeron, Zdeno Chara and Chris Kelly all recieved a blow on Thursday.
Julien will be expecting a topnotch effort no matter who’s in the lineup. It would be a disappointment to slip up against an outmatched Sabres squad, especially with the Presidents’ Trophy within grasp.
