Bottoming Out - Celtics Vs. Philadelphia 76ers Preview

The Boston Celtics take on the cellar-dwelling Philadelphia 76ers tonight with both teams counting the days until the NBA draft. The Celtics ended a long losing streak last week and now have won two in a row, showing they aren’t content to let the season just play out.

The Sixers, on the other hand, have lost 32 out of the their last 34 on their way to a likely top-three pick in this year’s NBA draft. Michael Carter-Williams continues to pad his stats in the race for Rookie of the Year, and Philadelphia fans are ready for the 2014-2015 season.

Boston enters tonight in the mix for a top-five draft choice this year, which will give fans a reason to watch the NBA playoffs…well one game at least. Instead of trying to figure out who is going to win this game and why, I have a more important question. Who is going to represent the Celtics on lottery night?

Danny Ainge seems like the obvious selection, but let’s get a bit more creative. Rajon Rondo has enjoyed doing press and commentary as of late and him being at the event would definitely create as much buzz that could be manifested from this event. I am sure Antoine Walker can use the appearance fees.  Paul Pierce will be busy, as will Kevin Garnett (if he plays at all). My hope is that they bring in an old-timer, perhaps the likes of JoJo White.

The C’s will keep up their offensive success against a Philadelphia team that hasn’t played a lick of defense all season long. This could be a great chance for Jeff Green to close the season out with a big performance, making fans more frustrated before heading into the offseason.

Prediction: Celtics 112, Sixers 101
