Boston Red Sox vs. Chicago White Sox Preview: (5-8)

The Red Sox are back in action against the White Sox tonight at 8:10 PM ET in Chicago. The Red Sox lost three of four in their first series with the Yankees.

The big storyline from that series was John Farrell’s disapproval of the MLB’s new review system. There were a couple influential calls that did not go the way the Red Sox would’ve liked and one eventually led to Farrell being ejected from the last game of the series. Farrell will also be fined my the league for his blatant disapproval of the new system.

Another factor that has contributed to the team’s early season struggle is injuries. They will get Dustin Pedroia back after having a scare with a left wrist injury. After running some tests, it appears Pedroia’s injury is not serious, but he expects to be back in the lineup tomorrow because of a cortisone shot today. They also have gone the last couple of games without closer Koji Uehara, who was experiencing shoulder fatigue. Uehara will be in Chicago and available for this series.

Jake Peavy will make the start against his former team. Peavy is 0-0 with a 2.13 ERA in two starts this season. He has battled hard in his two starts this season and kept the team in position to win both games, so expect more of the same tonight. On the mound for the White Sox tonight is Erik Johnson, who is 0-1 with a 9.58 ERA. Johnson has struggled mightily this season giving up 11 earned runs in 10.1 innings pitched.

Here is the Red Sox lineup according to Pete Abraham of the Boston Globe:

  1. Sizemore LF
  2. Bogaerts SS
  3. Ortiz DH
  4. Napoli 1B
  5. Nava RF
  6. Pierzynski C
  7. Roberts 3B
  8. Bradley Jr. CF
  9. Herrera 2B

The Red Sox look to get back on track with a win tonight on the road. Tonight is also Jackie Robinson Day, so all the players will honor him and his monumental contributions to the game by wearing number 42.

It is also the one-year anniversary of the Boston Marathon bombing, so remember to keep all of those effected in your thoughts and prayers. We are all Boston Strong today.
