Boston Bruins former assistant GM Vancouver bound

With the Stanley Cup playoffs still in full swing, the Vancouver Canucks locked down their next general manager, swiping him from the Boston Bruins front office.

The Canucks hired Jim Benning to be their next GM. Since 2007, Benning had served as the Bruins assistant to Peter Chiarelli.

Adding Benning to the front office comes as no surprise. Team president Trevor Linden is good friends with him. Benning even played for the Canucks for four years, 1986-1990.

Benning has gained a wealth of knowledge working under Chiarelli and his first order of business will be utilizing some that to hire a new coach.

The team parted ways with first year bench boss John Tortorella after a dismal 2013-2014 season.

Before arriving in Boston, Benning worked as the Buffalo Sabres director of amateur scouting.
