Stephen Drew to make Red Sox season debut Monday

Stephen Drew will make his 2014 Red Sox season debut Monday night against the Cleveland Indains. He’ll bat eighth and play shortstop.

Boston recalled Drew from Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday after the club optioned thirdbaseman Garin Cecchini back down.

Drew’s return to the team comes as they seek their eighth consecutive victory.

Xander Bogaerts, who had been playing shortstop through the first third of the season, will start at third. He’ll bat second.

Brock Holt‘s been swinging a hot bat in recent games. He’ll move across the diamond from third to first and hit lead-off.

The Red Sox signed Drew back on May 20. He passed his physical and completed the team’s mandated 10-game minor league assignment.

Drew is slated to earn $10 million over the remainder of the year.
