Boston Bruins report card: Torey Krug

The Boston Bruins defensive corps is made up of wily veterans and young offensive-minded studs. Of the diverse group, Torey Krug is certainly the best offensive defender.

Krug does not see a ton of even strength ice time because he skates on Boston’s third line pairing. With that said, one would imagine consistent production being hard to come by. That’s not the case with Krug. He contributes a bunch.

The 23-year-old youngster commands a ton of power play time because of his topnotch skating ability, hard shot from the back end and slick passing skills.

Krug potted 14 goals this past season and tallied 26 assists in 79 games. He skated to a plus-18 rating.

After bursting onto the scene during last year’s playoff run, Krug made sure to follow up his impressive showing this year. He added two goals and eight assists in 12 playoff games prior to Boston’s Game 7 loss to Montreal.

It’s important to remember that Krug accomplished all of this in his first full season with the black-and-gold. He even exhibited great strides in improving on the defensive end of the ice.

Krug is set to become a restricted free agent. Boston will certainly be quick to retain him. It’ll be interesting to see what the bottom line on the deal is given Krug’s unlimited potential.

Final Grade: A-
