Red Sox shut down Middlebrooks, Victorino until further notice

The rehab process for Will Middlebrooks and Shane Victorino is now on hold. The two have been shut down indefinitely from baseball activity due to injury, announced the Boston Red Sox Friday.

Victorino had been on shelf after suffering a hamstring injury earlier in the season. Just recently he aggravated his lower back during a rehab game in Pawtucket.

The 33-year-old has played in just 21 games this season. In those games, Victorino accumulated a mediocre .242 batting average.

Middlebrooks on the other hand is dealing with a swollen right index finger. The condition prevents him from  throwing the baseball across the diamond. He has also appeared in just 21 games. It’s his second finger ailment this season.

The 25-year-old had been scuffling at the dish prior to hitting the disabled list. Middlebrooks was hitting a miniscule .197 with a pair of dingers.

Boston is in desperate need of offensive reinforcement. They’ve fallen nine games below .500.

Brock Holt will continue to assume several different positions on the field. They would also benefit from calling up Mookie Betts and his big bat.

In the mean time, we’ll sit tight and monitor the health of Victorino and Middlebrooks.
