Lester, Lackey to pitch for Boston Red Sox in Saturday's twin-bill

The Boston Red Sox are set to square-off in a day-night doubleheader opposite the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park Saturday. Heavy rains swept through the area on Independence Day, eliminating any chance of matinee baseball.

Jon Lester will take the mound for Boston in the opening half of the twin-billing. Baltimore will counter with Miguel Gonzalez. The first pitch of the tilt will be thrown at 1:05 p.m.

John Lackey will follow for the Sox in the 7:15 p.m. nightcap. Ubaldo Jimenez will toe the rubber for the Orioles.

Boston had a scheduled off day Thursday. They should be plenty rested and raring to go after Friday’s wash out.

With their top two pitchers set to work against division rival Baltimore, the Sox are presented with a prime opportunity to make up ground in American League East standings.

Gonzalez has been scuffling since returning from the D.L. on June 17. In his last three starts, opposing batters are hitting .385 against him. Lester surely holds the advantage in the match-up.

Jimemez’s odds against Lackey don’t look any better. He has accumulated an astronomical 9.31 ERA in six career starts against Boston. Lackey is 5-2 at Fenway this season.

Orioles third baseman Manny Machado will return from suspension following the first game.
