Boston Celtics Summer League Update

The Boston Celtics have played two NBA Summer League games and we have gotten a glimpse of what to expect in the coming season.

First off, it was reported yesterday that James Young is going to miss the rest of the summer league for Boston. It is such a shame because we all wanted to see Young and Marcus Smart get some run together, but it is the smart decision for the youngster and we will see them play in the preseason.

As for yesterday’s game against the Indiana Pacers, here are some quick thoughts about what took place in Orlando:

  • Boston gave up a big lead to the Pacers and ended up getting blown out. Frankly, it is a demoralizing thing for some of these younger players to deal with, which is good in a game that doesn’t count. How they bounce back will be telling and is a nice storyline for the next contest.
  • Marcus Smart had similar problems in this one with his shooting and his ability to score in general. He definitely has that great defensive motor but will need to make his decisions quicker on offense, but once he does, he clearly has elite athleticism to get where he wants to go.
  • Starring for the Celtics again was Kelly Olynyk, as he shows he has the ability to score from almost anywhere on the court. His defense is making progress but he still has a long way to go before opposing guards ever hesitate to attack him.
  • I am still waiting to hear from Chris Babb and Chris Johnson. If any of you know where they are, tell them they owe me a call.
