Five New England Patriots players have been placed on the physically unable to perform list ahead of Thursday’s opening of training camp. Surprisingly though, two of the team’s bigger name players did not appear on the list despite still recovering from major injuries.

Tight end Rob Gronkowski and defensive tackle Vince Wilfork appear to be a go to start camp on time. Gronkowski suffered an ACL injury last season, while Wilfork went down with an Achilles injury.

Now there’s still a chance the team could place one or both on the list, according to Albert Breer of the NFL Network. But it’s great news for the duo as of right now.

The team placed corner Alfonzo Dennard, receiver Aaron Dobson, receiver Jeremy Gallon, receiver Matthew Slater and defensive tackle Tommy Kelly all on the PUP list. The group will not take part in the practice when camp opens.

Dobson was plagued by a foot injury in his rooke season last year. Kelly missed time after succumbing to a knee injury. Dennard underwent offseason shoulder surgery.

New England also placed a total of four players on the non-football injury list. Those guys include defensive tackle Dominique Easley, running back Roy Finch, offensvie tackle Chris Martin and linebacker Deontae Skinner.

There are 15 Patriots in total returning or rehabbing from various ailments, according to ESPN’s Mike Reiss.
