Boston Bruins hire Joe Sacco to fill assistant coach vacancy

The Boston Bruins have hired Joe Sacco to be the their new assistant coach to Claude Julien, announced the organization Thursday.

Boston was left with an assistant coaching vacany after Geoff Ward left the club to accept a head coaching posisition in Germany.

Sacco joins the Bruins having accumulated a wealth of hockey knowledge and experience over the course of a successful career.

Sacco grew up in Medford, Massachusetts and played his college hockey at Boston University. He spent a total of 13 seasons in the NHL playing for five different teams.

The NHL journeyman recently served as Buffalo’s assistant coach last season. Prior to that, Sacco was the head coach of the Colorado Avalanche from 2009-2013.

In addition to his NHL coaching experience, Sacco has spent time in the AHL ranks. He coached the Lowell Lock Monsters, Lake Erie Monsters and Albany River Cats.

The 43-year-old appears to be an excellant addition to the Boston coaching staff based on his resume.
