The New England Patriots activated defensive back Alfonzo Dennard from the physically unable to perform list. Dennard was placed on the list prior to the start of training camp after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery. His return to the practice field will only bolster an already lethal group.
Dennard practiced with the team Tuesday morning. He rejoined a cornerback group that’s been giving quarterback Tom Brady a stiff test when he goes to the air in team drills.
With Browner set to miss the team’s first four games due to suspension, many feel Dennard will start on the outside opposite Revis during that time. The ex-Nebraska Cornhusker has started 20 games for coach Bill Belichick over the last two seasons.
Dennard has four interceptions and 15 pass defenses since joining the Patriots in 2012. One of those interceptions he returned for a touchdown.
Ryan is another candidate who could see some starting time in Browner’s absence. He led the team in interceptions with five last season as a rookie. Arrington boasts a lot of experience, but he excels defending against slot receivers.
Dennard’s activation indicates New England’s defense is becoming healthier. Defensive tackle Tommy Kelly was activated from the PUP list over the weekend as well. Things seem to be coming together for the Patriots. The longer the full group of players practice together, the better they will be come opening week.
