Perhaps stealing the spotlight from the Jon Lester rumors, it appears that Kevin Love may be packing his bags for Cleveland as soon as August 23.
According to Rotoworld.com (which provided its source from ESPN), a Kevin Love-trade to the Cavaliers is a matter of “when” and not “if.” Assuming the number one overall pick in Andrew Wiggins is part of the deal, the trade will not be completed until 30 days after Wiggins signed his NBA contract (July 24).
Though murmurs of the Boston Celtics making any sort of push for Love has dissipated, a deal that has the Timberwolves power forward joining LeBron James in Cleveland would obviously squash that rebuilding plan for Danny Ainge.
As for this latest report, there are no details about the players Cleveland would be sending back for Love, but one would imagine it involves a combination of Wiggins, Anthony Bennett, and some draft choices(maybe Dion Waiters?!?!) with Love and Kevin Martin coming back to the Cavs. If that is the case, the starting lineup of Kyree Irving, Martin, James, Love, and Anderson “Sideshow Bob” Varejao. Scary for every team not in Chicago from the Eastern Conference.
The Celtics can look towards another path in their arduous rebuilding project. If Love is really moved, you may hear Rajon Rondo‘s name come up in trade rumors around the league to try and acquire assets to build around the young players currently on the roster. This would make Boston an official overhaul! However, Ainge, like he has said numerous times, would have to be blown away by an offer for his All-Star point guard.
Nonetheless, Boston will be looking up from the bottom of the standings once this Love trade is completed, so we may as well enjoy the fine basketball we will watch in the Midwest and try not to feel bad for Miami Heat fans all over the state of Florida (half of them may become Cavs fans anyway).
