There will be no repeat World Series champion this year, as the title-defending Boston Red Sox were mathematically eliminated on Wednesday

Shocking, right? No?

Probably not, as the Red Sox showed very little signs of life or hope that this could be another special year. The World Series defense ended just as it had begun, with a loss to the Baltimore Orioles. Everything in between was nothing short of agony for the group of fans that make of Red Sox Nation.

Even Red Sox chairmen Tom Werner described the 2014 season as a “disaster”, not even a year separated from hoisting the World Series trophy at Fenway Park.

In recent years, the Red Sox organization and the team have been consistently inconsistent, going from last place in 2012, to World Series champions in 2013, only to return back to the cellar of the AL East division in 2014.

The Red sox are not at all an organization in turmoil, far from it.

Could Boston go from worst to first twice in-a-row? If so, these things will have to happen.
