‘DeflateGate’: Just Another Example Of Patriots Hate

facebooktwitterreddit

Late Sunday night, after the Patriots whipped the Colts 45-7 in the AFC Championship Game, Colts writer Bob Kravitz reported that the Patriots may have intentionally deflated the footballs to give New England an advantage.

Really?

As preposterous as this is, it needs to be addressed because after SpyGate the Patriot organization has been labeled guilty unless proven innocent on any controversy like this. So let’s take a look at some of the facts from last night’s game as well as the Patriots-Colts history lately:

  • The Patriots and Colts provide game balls to officials before kick-off and do not see or touch them again.
  • Referees are also touching the football on every play, whether its placing it at the line of scrimmage or replacing a ball because it is too slick due to rain
  • LeGarrette Blount rushed for three touchdowns and 148 yards total
  • Jonas Gray recorded four touchdowns and 201 yards total in their Week 11 matchup
  • Blount recorded four touchdowns and 166 yards rushing in last year’s AFC Divisional Round Game

So instead of looking at the fact the Patriots have the Colts number (especially against the run), the Colts  are determined that it was the same old Belichick up to his cheating ways once again. Listen since SpyGate the Patriots and their fans have always had to defend them especially when SpyGate gets mentioned, so when they get called on potentially another scandal it forces the organization and fan base to defend the Patriot Way.

More from Chowder and Champions

Maybe its that SpyGate is now seven years old, and those who continue to use it as a way to invalidate the Patriots success, but frankly defending the Patriots and SpyGate is getting old. Sure if you want to make the argument that the Patriots haven’t won since SpyGate, well sure there’s no defending that because that is just a fact. But those same people who look to SpyGate as a way to invalidate the Patriots have a wind tunnel vision when it comes to the Patriots dominance the past 15 years, they just want to point out the one glaring fact that they haven’t won a Super Bowl since then and not look at the greater body of work.

I’m not going to rattle off the Patriots record or stats since SpyGate because that would just be feeding the Patriot haters, but the fact is the Patriots are a powerhouse in the NFL and have been for 15 years so to see accusations continue to come from guys like John Harbaugh and now the Indianapolis Colts just proves that you the only way to shut those people up is to capture their fourth Super Bowl. That’s not going to be easy especially against a team like Seattle, and who knows even if we do win those same detractors might claim the Patriots must be back to their cheating ways again and you know what if that’s how they see things than great.

For the Colts they really need to just head back to Indianapolis and try to move on from this because they will get nothing out of ‘DeflateGate’ either way. ‘DeflateGate’ should be addressed within the next few days because the NFL does not want to have this sort of publicity overriding the most important time in the league’s calendar year, and in a year where there have been plenty of off the field distractions for the NFL they will likely want to get this one addressed as soon as they can.

So for all the Patriot haters out there and those who believe that Bill Belichick is as big of a cheater as Pete Rose, I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as you wish. For the Patriots, and they’re fans, well they’re on to Seattle.
