The Boston Red Sox were tagged for 17 hits Tuesday night at Fenway Park as the Toronto Blue Jays rolled to an 11-8 victory. Clay Buchholz was knocked from the game after getting hit hard in the third. Jose Bautista collected a homer and three RBI to help the Jays avenge Monday’s walk-off defeat.

Boston plated four runs in the second to give Buchholz an early and sizable advantage on the scoreboard. Xander Bogaerts, Mookie Betts, Dustin Pedroia and David Ortiz all collected RBI singles in the frame off of Blue Jays starter Drew Hutchison. Hutchison pitched just four innings after allowing six runs.

Buchholz gave it all back when he took the mound in the top half of the third. The Blue Jays racked up four RBI singles and a sacrifice fly to force Buchholz out of the game as they jumped ahead 5-4. Buchholz pitched just 2 2/3 innings. He allowed six hits, struck out four and dropped to 1-3 on the season in defeat.

Bautista clubbed a homer to left in the eighth and Josh Donaldson capped off Toronto’s 11-run offensive outburst in the ninth with a deep solo blast to center.

Boston’s bullpen was horrendous. Edward Mujica gave up 3 earned runs in 1 1/3 innings. Anthony Varvaro, Craig Breslow and Junichi Tazawa all allowed one run. Robbie Ross was the lone Red Sox reliever to escape an inning without allowing a hit or a run.

Trailing 10-6 in the eighth, Hanley Ramirez ripped a lined two-run shot down the line in right that snuck just inside the Pesky Pole.

Brett Cecil pitched a scoreless ninth for Toronto to secure the win, sending the Red Sox home with their third loss in their last four games.

For the second time in three games, a Boston starter failed to make it through three innings. Wade Miley was bounced from Sunday’s 18-7 loss in Baltimore in the second inning as well.

The Red Sox and Blue Jays will go at it again from Fenway on Wednesday evening.
