The Monday Night showdown between the New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills was a pretty good summary of most the match ups between Bill Belichick and Rex Ryan: Ugly.

Points came at a premium, with both teams boasting stout defenses, and the game went into halftime with the Patriots leading 10-3. The end result was more of the same. The Patriots do just enough to win, and Rex Ryan’s team makes a few key errors to lose.

Once again, the Patriots were hampered with injuries at a position that was already thin. After a big third down catch, Aaron Dobson came up lame, and needed to be helped off the field by the training staff. Later, Danny Amendola left the game with a knee injury after getting out-of-the-way of a punt in the second half. These injuries left the Patriots with only two wide receivers for the remainder of the game.

Dobson’s injury appears to be more severe, but luckily Amendola dodged a bullet with only a sprained knee. He will not miss an extended period of time.

It was far from their most impressive win of the year, but the Patriots did what they had to do to get to 10-0.
