Red Sox Winter Weekend Attendees Announced

After a successful first year, the Red Sox will once again travel to Foxwoods Resort and Casino in Norwich, CT for their Winter Weekend January 22-24.

The event gives fans a chance to meet some of the current players, management, coaches, and former players. Last year fans were given the chance to meet superstars like Pedro Martinez, Dustin Pedroia, as well as up and coming stars such as Mookie Betts and Brock Holt.

This year will have a special theme surrounding the event, the Red Sox will be celebrating the 1986 Red Sox with it being the thirtieth anniversary of the team. Already scheduled to attend are Jim Rice, Sam Horn, Wade Boggs, and Roger Clemens.

The 1986 Red Sox finished first in the AL East in 1986 as they looked to overcome the Curse of the Bambino which at that time had reached 68 years. With a young Roger Clemens, Oil Can Boyd, and Al Nipper at the front of the rotation they looked to overcome the Angels in the ALCS.

In a back and forth battle with the California Angels, they were able to beat them in seven games and advance to the World Series where they would take on the New York Mets.

We all know how this story goes. Bill Buckner, Mookie Wilson, Mets in 7. It doesn’t hurt as much since the Red Sox have won 3 World Series since 2004, but the pain of losing a game and eventually the World Series because of a ground ball through the first basement legs is still tough to swallow.

Nevertheless that group of players was something special, and I’m sure that this appearance that they will be making in January at Foxwoods will be a unique and one of a kind event that any Red Sox fan around the area has to be apart of. On the next slide is the full list of players scheduled to be apart of the weekend event, as well as ticket information.
