New England Patriots rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett was placed on injured reserve Friday following surgery on his right thumb.

Rookie Jacoby Brissett is done for the season.  On Friday, Brissett had surgery on his injured right thumb and was placed on injured reserve.  The Patriots quarterback started the previous two games for the team leading them to a 1-1 record.

Brissett, who led the team to a 27-0 win over the Houston Texans in his first start, tore a ligament in the thumb in that same game.  He played with the injury the week following in the 16-0 loss to the Buffalo Bills, but with both Tom Brady and Jimmy Garoppolo returning, the team felt the time was right for Brissett to have a procedure on the thumb.

In his last game, Brissett was 17-of-27 for 205 yards.  It turned out to be his last action of the season.  At least he was able to get some valuable experience in the rookie season of his NFL career.

Julian EdelmanAccording to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, Patriots wide receiver Julian Edelman is officially listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Cleveland Browns.

Edelman first appeared on the injury report Thursday.  He was limited in practice due to the same foot in which he has had two previous surgeries on in the past year.  The good news on Friday is that Edelman was seen jogging with teammates without any restriction.

It could be that he is taking it easy in order not to aggravate the foot anymore or there could be more of a reason for concern.  Patriots fans are hoping that the team’s most reliable receiver is just taking it easy.

Besides Julian Edelman, the other players listed as questionable for Sunday’s game are defensive take Vincent Valentine, running back LeGarrette Blount, offensive tackle Marcus Cannon, linebacker Jonathan Freeny, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, tight end Rob Gronkowski, linebacker Dont’a Hightower and guard Joe Thuney.

Shea McClellin: Linebacker/defensive Shea McClellin was downgraded to out for Sunday’s game against the Browns due to a concussion.  McClellin did not practice at all this week and remains in the NFL’s concussion protocol.  It could be a while before he returns to action.

McClellin’s absence is not crucial since defensive end Rob Ninkovich is returning following a four-game suspension.  Running back Brandon Bolden has also been ruled out for Sunday’s matchup.
