When it comes to head scratching roster moves, New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick keeps critics and fans on their toes.

Another season and another roster move that has critics wondering if Bill Belichick has finally lost it.  While the NFL remains shocked by the moves made by the “hoodie,” New England Patriots fans can only shake their heads in move on and recite that ole’ saying “In Bill We Trust.”

That’s not to say that we, as fans, aren’t shocked by moves like the one that occurred last week.  We are just accustomed to losing players and somehow still winning.

Last time it was Richard Seymour and Logan Mankins, this time it was Jamie Collins and next time it may well be Rob Gronkowski (that’s when I may actually lose it), but whoever the future Hall-of-Fame coach has let go, we all know the coach is doing “what’s best for the team.”

That “best” may not be for the moment (see the 2010 season) but things always work out for the best.  First of all, those players seldom succeed some place else and secondly, Belichick’s moves over the years continue to prove that the system is the model for winning consistently and not the individual player.

Of course, some would say Tom Brady is the exception.  Others can easily point towards the success of the team when Matt Cassel, Jimmy Garoppolo and Jacoby Brissett was behind center.  But at the end, all that really proves is that Belichick and staff are masters at finding ways to put their players in the best position to succeed.

But perhaps the main reason for Belichick’s success is that he could care less what people outside the organization thinks about his moves.  Check out his response last Wednesday when asked about the phrase “In Bill We Trust.”

"“I really don’t pay too much attention to what’s out there on the outside,” Belichick said.  “I try to focus on the team and do what’s best for the team and that’s what drives me is to make the best decisions I can for this football team, the organization, ownership, the Kraft family. That’s what I try to do. There’s no way I could keep everybody happy anyway, so I just do the best I can.”"

In summary, as long as Bill Belichick is leading the New England Patriots to 12-4 seasons and trips to the AFC Championship games and Super Bowl, fans will stay on board.  However, if those seasons continue to end in failure due to some of those decisions, critics like Skip Bayless will be proven right in basically saying “Belichick has finally lost his damn mind!”
