The New England Patriots young defensive end Trey Flowers has a chance to bloom as a pass rusher.

After spending part of his rookie season on injured reserve, New England Patriots defensive end Trey Flowers has a chance to really bloom entering the second part of the 2016 NFL season.

The second-year player has appeared in all eight games for the Patriots this season.  He has shown flashes of the player the team feels he can be.  If he finds some consistency he really has a chance to blossom, especially with the team in dire need of a pass rush specialist.

At 6-foot-2, 265 pounds, Flowers has the tools and is entering the second half of the season fresh and ready to take that next step.

"“It’s been good,” he said via the Providence Journal. “I feel like I’m ready for the second half of the season; no dings or anything like that. So, away we go.”"

So far this season, the 2015 fourth-round pick has racked up 18 tackles and a couple of sacks.  Although the sack total is low, he has been around the quarterback credited with four quarterback hits.

With Jamie Collins now gone and Rob Ninkovich playing more of a linebacker role.  Flowers should have more of an opportunity on the edge along with Jabaal Sheard and Chris Long.

Tyler Gaffney waived:  The Patriots announced Thursday that they have released running back Tyler Gaffney.  The move more than likely means the team will add Dion Lewis to the 53-man roster.

Gaffney, 25, has spent two seasons in the NFL with New England, but has not played in a regular season game.  After he was signed to the practice squad in October, he was signed to the 53-man roster for the Buffalo game, but was inactive.  It is a good bet that he will return to the practice squad, especially since the team lost Bishop Sankey.  Sankey was signed off the practice squad by the Kansas City Chiefs.

Julian Edelman still limited:  The New England Patriots will enter Week 10 completely healthy, but there were still a few key players limited in practice.

Wide receiver Julian Edelman (foot), Martellus Bennett (ankle) and Alan Branch (back) were all limited for the second consecutive practice.  All three are expected to play on Sunday against the Seahawks.
