The New England Patriots running back LeGarrette Blount does not care about his personal numbers, he just wants to help the team win.

LeGarrette Blount is the ultimate Patriot.  The New England Patriots big, bruising running back is having one heck of a season and is on brink of breaking a team rushing touchdown record set back Curtis Martin.

As cool as that sounds, Blount says he doesn’t care about any personal achievements.  He cares about how the team is performing and helping them win.  All things considered, those are probably the reasons he has fallen in good favor with Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

This Sunday’s matchup against the San Francisco 49ers is a game that will probably feature Blount.  The 49ers have a porous run defense and with both Rob Gronkowski and Chris Hogan out for the game, the Patriots’ offense will turn to their ground attack featuring Blount.

"“We’re going to go in there with the mindset of winning the game, whether that’s running the ball 40 times or throwing the ball 40 times,” Blount said via the Boston Herald. “We just want to put up enough points to win the game.“You can’t go out there and be relaxed. You can’t go out there and think these guys are going to roll over just because we’re the Patriots. We’re going to play them just like anybody else, because when you go out there and think guys are going to lay over just because you’re one of the better teams in the NFL, that’s how you get your (butt) beat. We’re trying not to be one of those guys.”"

The 29-year-old running back enters the game with 182 carries for 678 yards and 12 touchdowns, just 2 short of Martin’s franchise single-season record of 14.  Although he knows he has a chance to make history, his focus isn’t on his individual numbers as they mean nothing if the team doesn’t win the game.

More from New England Patriots

"“It’s not really about the numbers to me,” Blount said. “Obviously, we want to win games here. Everybody is focused on getting Ws. Speaking for me personally, there are always personal goals that everybody sets for themselves. Obviously, running backs want to rush for 1,000 (yards). Quarterbacks want to throw for 4,000, 5,000 (yards). But at the end of the day, the numbers don’t mean anything. You get more recognition and more respect when you win games. That’s the key for me.”"

Blount is on pace for 1,205 yards and 21 touchdowns.  With the weather getting uglier as the second half of the season progresses, there is a good chance he will have a chance to reach those projections.

Injury list:  The Patriots will be without three key players.  Rob Gronkowski and Chris Hogan have been ruled out due to injury.  Surprisingly, defensive end Jabaal Sheard will be a healthy scratch for the game.

Martellus Bennett and Julian Edelman are both listed as questionable, but expected to play.

Dion Lewis:  The versatile running back should see his first game action against the 49ers.  Without Gronkowski and Hogan, Tom Brady will need another outlet in the short passing game and Lewis fits that mole.  He is also able to run the ball between the tackles.  With the 49ers weak against the run, there should be a heavy dose of Blount and Lewis.
