New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady will go through the rest of the regular season without one of his top skill players.

If Tom Brady does win the MVP this season, he will certainly have earned it.  Following Thursday’s news that New England Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will undergo back surgery and perhaps miss the rest of the season, Brady broke his silence about the challenges the Patriots’ offense will not face without Gronk.

Appearing on Westwood One’s pregame show for Thursday Night Football, Brady said losing Gronkowski will be an obstacle the team must overcome to achieve their goal.

"“You know, it doesn’t help losing great players,” Brady said via WEEI. “To not have Gronk out there as one of our best players and most dependable, consistent players, not in the lineup makes things challenging for us, but that is what the NFL season is about. It’s about overcoming challenges. We have a lot of good players on our team that are going to need to fill the void and that is a big void left by a spectacular player in Gronk. I don’t think any of us are going to give up what we’re trying to accomplish.“He’s such a mentally tough person. He’s physically tough. He has a great energy and spirit about him. We’re all wishing him the very best. Nobody wants Gronk not out there. Everybody wants Gronk out there every play of every game. That’s not a reality. We still have a job to do and we’re going to try and go out and do it as well as we possibly can.”"

Brady said that the has spoken to Gronkowski the last few days and expects the All-Pro tight end to work as hard as possible to get back as soon as he can.  While that may not be till 2017, there is a little bit of hope that the 2017 game involves this year’s Super Bowl.

My Cause, My Cleats: Chris Long, Devin McCourty, Rob Ninkovich, Logan Ryan, Dont’a Hightower, and Joe Cardona will be among Patriots players who will represent their charities Sunday as part of the NFL wide initiative, My Cause, My Cleats.

The initiative gives players the opportunity to customize cleats to raise awareness for the charities and foundations of their choice.  Check out some of the different charities Patriots players will represent.

Injury Report: While the Gronkowski news was a hard blow for the team, the Patriots did have some good news on the injury front.

Both Tom Brady (knee) and Martellus Bennett (ankle/shoulder) returned to the practice field.  Julian Edelman also returned to practice following the birth of his first child.  All three players were limited in practice.

Defensive end Trey Flowers showed up on the list for the first time.  He was limited due to a shin injury.  Woodrow Hamilton (illness) and Nate Ebner (concussion) also missed practice on Thursday.
