Patriots Gridiron News: Is Tom Brady Playing for His Job?

facebooktwitterreddit

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady might be playing for his job according to Colin Cowherd of “The Herd.”

Steve Young eventually took over for Joe Montana in San Francisco and Aaron Rodgers eventually pushed out Brett Farve in Green Bay.  So could Tom Brady be approaching a similar feat?  According to Colin Cowherd, Brady’s tenure with the Patriots could come to an end if he doesn’t play well against the Pittsburgh Steelers this Sunday.

Despite leading his team to their sixth consecutive AFC championship game and seemingly getting better with age, Cowerd’s suggestion may seem silly.  What he is basing his projection (or angle) on is the fact that Jimmy Garoppolo, like Young and Rodgers, is a good backup waiting his turn.

So, if Brady has another subpar performance in a championship game, Bill Belichick and Robert Kraft may have something to think about.

"“If Pittsburgh wins this game and Brady is average, you’re darn right Kraft and Belichick are having that, ‘Let’s have lunch and talk,’” Cowherd said via WEEI."

We all know good things have to come to an end…eventually.  Although Tom Brady will probably not play till he is 50, he has proven with his play this season that he has at least two or three good years left (barring injury).  The suggestion that this one game could determine his feat in New England is absurd, but (and there is always a but) one can never rule out a Belichick decision to move forward before a player hits his decline.

Brady is not immune to that and even he knows it.

Champions off the field: New England Patriots left tackle Nate Solder was named as the recipient of the team’s 2016 Ed Block Courage Award.

The award, named for the longtime head athletic trainer for the Baltimore Colts, recognizes NFL players who display commitments to the principles of sportsmanship and courage.

Solder has continued showcasing those principles despite being faced with the challenges of personally beating testicular cancer and learning that his infant son, Hudson, was diagnosed with a Wilm’s tumor in his kidney.  Despite these challenges, Solder continue to volunteer his time to the Hockomock Area YMCA and the organizations’ many programs and events.

While protecting Tom Brady on the field, his commitment to various charitable causes off the field showcases his strength and dedication to others and is a reason why Nate Solder is a champion off the field.
