New England Patriots Talk: Super Bowl 51 Win Will Come Down To Eric Rowe And The Matt Patricia Coached Patriots Defense

As you know, the New England Patriots are heading back to the Super Bowl for the 7th time in the last 16 years after they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers 36-17 last night at Gillette Stadium. Super Bowl 51 in Houston against the Atlanta Falcons will essentially come down to one thing, and that’s the Patriots ability to stop the Falcons offense.

Both of these teams have high powered offenses. The Patriots have a better defense averaging only 16.5 points/game this year to the Falcons 20.5 points/game. It just feels like that the Patriots will be able to score on the Falcons D so as long as the Patriots can stop the Falcons, they should win Super Bowl 51.

The one thing you should be bracing for during the big game in two weeks is the play of CB Eric Rowe. During yesterday’s game against the Steelers, Rowe was getting burned on almost every time Ben Roethlisberger threw in his direction. Every time it didn’t end in a completion, it was a dropped pass.

Yes he had an interception late in the game, but that was on one of the worst passes I’ve ever seen. But in two weeks against Matt Ryan and better receivers like Mohamed Sanu, or the pass catching running back Devonta Freeman, Rowe will have a much more difficult time against a high powered offense like the Atlanta Falcons.

Saying that, the Patriots do have a really good defense. No matter how you look at it, they really average 16.5 points allowed per game. Last week against the Houston Texans, they allowed 16 points and yesterday against a pretty good offense in Pittsburgh. That averages to 16.5 points per game.

This Patriots defense is the definition of a bend don’t break defense. They give up the yards but they don’t give up the points. Against the Falcons, I expect them to give up more points than 17 like the Steelers scored last especially since the Falcons are a great offense but I think they will be able to stop them.

So if Eric Rowe has a good game against the Falcons, I fully expect the Lombardi Trophy to come home to Foxboro. This offense won’t have a problem scoring and I’m very confident in the defense to play well outside of Eric Rowe, especially after yesterday. A good game from Rowe will guarantee a win in Houston.
