New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola had very good things to say about Patriots Nation during the NFL’s Opening Night festivities.

They have been called ‘drunks,’ ‘racists,’ and obnoxious. They have also been described as quiet during New England Patriots home games at times.  In all, fans have taken a lot of heat.  Part of which involves showing team loyalty through almost two decades of dominance and two scandals that has labeled their team as a dynasty of cheaters.

But, if you talk to any Patriots fan, they wouldn’t trade the Bill Belichick-Tom Brady era for anything.  They sport their replica Pat Patriot red jersey’s and Rob Gronkowski t-shirts with pride.  That’s the kind of enthusiasm wide receiver Danny Amendola sees when he looks up in the stands of Gillette Stadium on.

Asked about New England Patriots fans during the NFL’s Opening Night festivities at Minute Maid Park on Monday night, Amendola applauded those who applaud for him and his team.

"“Patriots Nation is loud, they have sick accents, they drink a lot of Dunkin [Donuts] coffee and they’re awesome. They’re the best,” he said via WEEI."

Houston Homecoming

The former Texas Tech star is one of several New England players experiencing a homecoming as he grew up in The Woodlands, Texas.  He expects some of that same fan support to travel with the team from Foxboro.  He also expects a lot of fan support for those who have followed him all his life.

"“It’s incredible,” Amendola said of playing in his home state.  “It’s a dream come true.  It hit me today [Monday] coming off the plane, and I could smell Houston.  I could feel it, and it’s awesome.“All my friends are here.  All the boys from the high school are coming – all my closest friends and family, so it’s fun coming home to play in front of them.”"

The 31-year-old wide receiver will look to make a big play or two in Super Bowl LI.  That would make both Patriots Nation and his hometown supporters proud.
