The New England Patriots are looking to add another weapon to Tom Brady’s arsenal in 2017. The team has shown interest in both Brandon Marshall and Brandin Cooks.

Over the past few days, the New England Patriots have been linked to new free agent and former New York Jets WR Brandon Marshall and New Orleans Saints WR Brandin Cooks. Sources have said that the team and Marshall have “mutual interest.”

Late in his career, Marshall’s goal is to win a Super Bowl championship. His best chance to find that success is in New England, with a future Hall of Fame QB on his side. The Patriots will have plenty of cap space this season, at nearly $59 million, so they could afford to bring in the veteran wideout on a short term deal.

Over 11 NFL seasons, Brandon Marshall has 941 receptions for 12,061 yards and 82 touchdowns. At 6’4″ Marshall would give the Patriots a new deep ball. tall receiving threat.

More from New England Patriots

On Saturday night it was made known that the Patriots actually made an offer to the Saints for WR Brandin Cooks.

New England offered New Orleans the 32nd overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft, but the offer was rejected. The offer also called for the Saints to send a later round pick to the Patriots. New Orleans believes they can get even more for Cooks, as the Philadelphia Eagles and Tennessee Titans have also shown an interest in the three-year veteran.

Cooks has recorded back-to-back 1,100-yard seasons, with 9 and 8 touchdowns. He has 20 total receiving touchdowns over three seasons.

This was Saints’ head coach Sean Payton’s take on Brandin Cooks:

"“I’ve said this before: Brandin is someone we value tremendously in our system. He’s been extremely productive. He’s everything we were wanting when we drafted him. Now, that being said, these news items come up, and there are a lot of meetings that take place here. I wouldn’t say he’s on the trade block. But certainly, when a team calls, a team that’s looking for a receiver, and we’re looking to improve our defense, we’re always listening.”"

The Patriots may make a counter offer, and I believe if a deal happens it will be on draft day.
