Acquired in a trade with the New Orleans Saints, new wide receiver Brandin Cooks is ‘thankful’ to play with the New England Patriots.

New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady has a shiny new weapon to throw the ball to.

On Friday, the team completed a deal to acquire wide receiver Brandin Cooks and a fourth-round pick from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for their first-round pick and a third-round pick.  While the Patriots paid quite a price by giving up such a high pick, the age and talent of Cooks is worth it.

At just 23 years old, Brandin Cooks has already established himself as one of the most dangerous receivers in the NFL.  Now, with the chance to play with the best quarterback in the game, sky is the limit for Cooks who calls the opportunity a “blessing.”

"“The opportunity to play for an organization like this is a dream come true and it’s a blessing,” Cooks said Monday, via Patriots.com.  “I couldn’t be more thankful.  To be able to play with someone that is going to be a Hall of Famer, a guy who is competitive, that is what you look forward to and I am just thankful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to get started.”"

Cooks has played with a pretty good quarterback in Drew Brees and his numbers over the last two seasons have been nothing short of spectacular.  Averaging over 1,000 yards receiving and over 8 touchdowns per season, the production may not get much better in New England.  But, with Brady throwing the ball, Cooks may be used in different ways which may make him more dynamic and more dangerous as a playmaker.

As far as the trade itself, Cooks has seen a glimpse of what the Patriots organization is all about.  His new team and former team has participated in joint practices the last two years and Cooks now welcomes the chance to be apart of a class organization.

"“This is a first-class place,” Cooks said.  “The type of place you would love to be apart of.  When we practiced against them it was always competitive and this is the type of team you want to go against to better yourself, and to be on a team like this now, it’s amazing.”"
