Will Darrelle Revis get an opportunity to revive his career in Foxborough as a member of the New England Patriots?

According to several NFL executives, future Hall of Fame cornerback Darrelle Revis will reunite with the New England Patriots.

Following a less than desirable 2016 season compounded by off the field issues, if Revis plays anywhere in 2017, Foxborough makes the most sense.

As CBS Sports Insider Jason La Canfora reports, the Patriots have the right system for Revis to revive his career as pointed out by those NFL executives predicting a Bill Belichick/Revis reunion.

"“We did our work on him.  He can still play.  He can cover.  He doesn’t have that long speed anymore; he’s not going to cover a No.1 receiver deep,” One personnel man told La Canfora, via CBS Sports.  “But he can cover in tight spaces and he has great instincts.  The film is not as bad as some would have you believe.  He’s a perfect fit in that quarters scheme Belichick runs, and they have the kind of safeties who can help him out, too.  We’re convinced he’s going back to New England.  It just makes too much sense.”"

Does New England need Revis?

The Patriots don’t need Revis, but he would be a low-risk addition.  With the signing of Stephon Gilmore, the Patriots have a No. 1 corner.  But, with the loss of Logan Ryan and trade rumors swirling around Malcolm Butler, the defending Super Bowl champs will be thin at the cornerback position.

More from New England Patriots

A veteran like Revis could certainly help, especially a player who already knows the system and won a championship with the team.

As far as money goes, the New York Jets will be responsible for the majority of the money Revis earns in 2017 if he signs on with another team.  Belichick could get him at around $6 million and bank on him regaining the motivation needed to prove to the league he still has it.

Another reason why the Patriots would be the right fit for Revis is it would give him the opportunity to go out on top.  It’s rather ironic that he left the New England Patriots after just one season to return to New York.  Now its Bill Belichick and the Patriots who could turn the sinking island back into the viable cornerback who once dominated the landscape of NFL cornerbacks.
