The Harvard Crimson are up against three college hockey powerhouses in the Frozen Four, but they’re riding their own hot streak.

The Harvard Crimson hockey team is back in the Frozen Four for the first time in 23 years.

Harvard has been unstoppable. The last team to take down the Crimson was Dartmouth way back on January 17th. Since then, Harvard has won a school-record 18 games in a row.

Last weekend Harvard beat Providence and Air Force in the East Regional to punch their ticket to the Frozen Four.

Prior to this season, the Crimson had lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament seven years in a row.

Harvard will join the University of Minnesota-Duluth, Notre Dame, and Denver in Chicago for this year’s Frozen Four.

Though they haven’t faced UMD in over 20 years, and Denver in over 30, Harvard knows that each team will be prepared to battle with them.

"“This day and age, there’s no such thing as an unknown commodity. So much video. So many games on TV. We all recruit at such a global level now. We’re familiar with their players. They’re familiar with ours,” Ted Donato observed Tuesday afternoon during a coaches teleconference previewing the upcoming NCAA championships at the United Center."

The last time Harvard was in the Frozen Four, their head coach Ted Donato was playing for the Boston Bruins. The left winger spent 13 years bouncing around the NHL and AHL after his Harvard playing days. He was with the Bruins from 1991 to 1999, and in 2003 as well. Donato has been the Harvard Crimson head coach since 2004.

Harvard’s opponents have plenty of experience in the Frozen Four. UMD won it all in 2011, Notre Dame was in the final in 2008 but lost to Boston College, and Denver lost in the semifinals last year.

Harvard will need to battle in the Frozen Four to bring the trophy back to the Boston area for the first time since Boston College won it in 2012. Harvard’s last title came in 1989 over Minnesota.
