The Boston Red Sox should cut ties with John Farrell, and they should look no further than former catcher Jason Varitek to replace him.

The Boston Red Sox have scored 30+ runs in their last three games but after a terrible series on the road in Oakland and a mediocre first two months of the MLB season, they should fire John Farrell.

The first question that comes up is “well who should the manager be then?” Easy. It’s Jason Varitek. Yep, the same Tek that we all loved as the captain for our Red Sox.

Varitek retired after the 2011 season, but he’s still been involved with the team.

In September 2012, Jason Varitek was named special assistant to Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington. Now, he’s an assistant to Dave Dombrowski. Tek has larger aspirations though. He wants to be in the dugout. Varitek believes he has a larger impact to make on the field.

"“Having been a part of the front office and having the ability to still get on the field everywhere that I go, I know I have more impact on the field. Where that role takes me through time, I’m not positive when that will be, but I think my greatest impact to give back to the game is on the field.”"

In 2015, Jason Varitek was actually offered the job as the manager for the Seattle Mariners, but he turned it down. Most would look at that as a sign that he wants to remain in Boston, to manage here someday. That someday should be now.

Varitek certainly woud have fan support in Boston. With the Red Sox he was one of the most beloved players. He brings his leadership experience which he earned managing the Red Sox pitching staff for years while serving as the team’s 4th captain since 1923. Now, he also has some front office experience to pull from. Now is as good a time as ever for Jason Varitek to take the reigns.

My favorite MLB player would quickly become my favorite MLB manager, especially if he can inspire and turn this underachieving ball club around. Imagine what he could do with this pitching staff!

What do you think Red Sox Nation, should Jason Varitek be handed the manaer position? Should Farrell get the boot?
