Undrafted rookie wide receiver Austin Carr is out to earn a roster spot with the New England Patriots while learning from two of the best.

Austin Carr has become accustomed to beating the odds.  The New England Patriots undrafted free agent rookie transcended from a walk on at Northwestern to the most productive receiver in the Big Ten in his final year of eligibility.

Still, he went undrafted in the 2017 NFL Draft.

Motivated as ever to fulfill his NFL dreams, Carr signed as an undrafted free agent with the Patriots and there couldn’t have been a more perfect place for him to succeed.  Not only will he get a chance to learn from a Hall-of-Fame coach and quarterback, he will learn from wide receivers who have also had to beat odds to earn success.

More from New England Patriots

A quarterback turned receiver in Julian Edelman, a former Lacrosse player in Chris Hogan and Danny Amendola have all risen to success when opportunity was low.  Carr will get his chance with the Patriots.  He will be surrounded by the right players to learn from and will get to play in a system where slot receivers typically strive.

"“For one, seeing how competitive they are and how good that room is, I don’t see this as a six-month journey,” Carr told reporters in response to his reason for signing with the Patriots, via NESN.  “I hope that I have a lengthy NFL career.  What better, my first year, than to learn from some of the best?  I’m going to model my game after those guys.  And when my spot opens, hopefully it’s here, and hopefully I take advantage of it.”"

With opportunity comes success

With both Edelman and Amendola now in their early 30s, the opportunity may be there for Austin Carr sooner rather than later.  Even if he doesn’t make the 53-man roster in 2017, he will earn some valuable experience from players whose path to success was built on hard word and determination.

Overall, joining the New England Patriots was the perfect choice for Carr.  Not only is he getting a chance with a winning organization, he will have a chance to produce if an opportunity opens up for him.

"“Learning from those guys is one of the first reasons I came here, and then second, a franchise that wins.  The goal isn’t just to get in the NFL.  It’s to get in the NFL and help a team win, to contribute.  And I felt like I could do that here.”"
