The Boston Celtics are still dreaming of Anthony Davis playing in a green and white uniform perhaps as soon as next season.

Boston Celtics president of basketball operations Danny Ainge has his sights set up something big — 6-foot-11 in particular.

That’s right, the Anthony Davis to Boston rumors are alive and well.  They won’t die unless or until something big happens in New Orleans to make the team a contender.  With the additions of Jrue Holiday and Rajon Rondo to go along with the Davis-DeMarcus Cousins pairing, the Pelicans should be interesting.

But, it they are not expect Ainge to come swooping in with an offer for the big man.

According to Yahoo! Sports, the belief through the NBA is that the Boston Celtics will indeed make a push for Davis if things fall apart.  Honestly, a team with Rondo and Cousins could easily fall apart, so it is more likely rather than not.

Anyway, here is what Yahoo! Sports reports:

"“In addition, rival executives expect Boston to be keeping close tabs on New Orleans, which is entering a critical season.  The Pelicans are committed to seeing if an Anthony Davis-DeMarcus Cousins frontcourt can work, but if the season goes awry, it’s widely believed the Celtics will make a strong run at Davis, who is under contract through 2020.”"

It will take a big package

Like the Kevin Garnett acquisition prior to the 2008 season, Ainge could feast on another star player not working out in a situation.  He won’t have a Kevin McHale to deal with this time, so that treasure chest of draft picks and young players Ainge is sitting on will have to be a part of any package that would bring Anthony Davis to Boston.

As crazy as it sounds right now, the Pelicans may be in a desperation situation following the 2018-19 season.  A situation similar to the one the Indiana Pacers were in when they dealt Paul George for basically nothing.

If the Pelicans executives are paying attention, they will try to move Davis for something significant sooner rather than wait to the last year of his deal when teams know they will have to move him.

Of course, these rumors will become irrelevant if the Pelicans become a power in the West, which would make them attractive enough for Davis to re-sign.
