While the Boston Red Sox search for a third baseman continues, they have a pretty solid prospect down at Triple-A Pawtucket.

Boston Red Sox third base prospect Rafael Devers was called up to Triple-A Pawtucket a week ago, and he already looks like a kid that deserves another call-up.

Devers has had no problem with pitchers in Pawtucket, as he’s gone .355 with two home runs and a double in his first week. Could he be the eventual answer at 3B for Boston?

The 3B market ahead of the MLB trade deadline seems pretty bleak, with Eduardo Nunez and Jed Lowrie being the best available options for Boston. With that, the team would be better suited to just ride the season out with Deven Marrero and Brock Holt. A late call-up for Devers, in time for him to be postseason eligible, could then be in the works.

Rafael Devers has played extremely well, but the Red Sox still want to take their time with him. While both Andrew Benintendi and Yoan Moncada skipped Triple-A last season, Moncada struggled in the majors. Dave Dombrowski doesn’t want the same thing to happen to Devers, so he’d like to give him plenty of time in Pawtucket.

I believe that a late-August call-up could be possible for Devers if he continues to play at his current level.

Devers will need to work on his hitting against breaking balls, but he has already improved in that area this season. Even if he’s called up, he shouldn’t be viewed as the offensive savior. Devers will need time to adjust to major league pitchers and he should be a part of a platoon with either Marrero or Holt. His play through September should determine if he’s the Red Sox postseason starter at third base as they make a run at another World Series title.

Do you think Devers is worthy of a late-season call-up, or should the Red Sox let him finish the season in Triple-A? Only time and the trade deadline will tell how this season will play out for Devers and Boston. Make sure to follow us on Twitter @CandCFanSided for the latest Sox news!
