With Deshaun Watson reportedly preparing to ask for a trade, the New England Patriots could save their franchise by acquiring him.

There is one position that the New England Patriots definitley need to fix. If New England wants to start winning again they need to find a quarterback. Thanks to the ineptitude of the Houston Texans, the Patriots have a chance to right the ship.

In 2020 we found out that Cam Newton isn’t good enough to lead a team to the playoffs. While he is an amazing athlete, his throwing ability leaves a lot to be desired.

More from Chowder and Champions

Newton threw for 2,657 yards, but only had eight touchdowns and threw 10 interceptions.

When Newton was signed it was believed that he could open up the passing game with his deep ball skills, but this was never a big part of the offense in 2020.

There’s also the case of Jarrett Stidham. In the offseason, he received all the hype and some expected him to win the starting job. Then everything came crashing down for Stidham. It seems like Stidham will be the absolute last option at QB.

So where will New England look for a new man under center? Well, the easiest option would be the draft. With the Patriots selecting at 15, there’s a chance that New England can move up and get a Justin Fields or Zach Wilson type player.

Also, the Patriots could acquire an NFL-level talent. Carson Wentz will likely be moved in the offseason and Dak Prescott and Jimmy Garoppolo could be on the move as well.

But the latest quarterback that could be on the market should intrigue Patriots fans the most. Apparently, Deshaun Watson is thinking about leaving the Houston Texans.

Now the haul for Watson would be immense. He is one of the best young quarterbacks in the NFL today.

2020 was the best season of Watson’s career. He threw for 4,823 yards, 33 touchdowns, and only seven interceptions.

Besides that, Watson is superb at evading rushers and can gain some yards on the ground. With the Patriots likely seeing some key members of the offensive line depart, the new QB will be under a lot of pressure in the pocket.

If the Patriots were to acquire Watson they would instantly become contenders. They wouldn’t need to go under a massive rebuild like they would if they drafted a QB this year. Watson is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL today.

Watson is worth whatever price. It will cost a ton of draft picks, but then again the Texans are known for making bad trades.

Next. Personnel departures are an opportunity for Pats. dark

So if Bill Belichick wants to win another Super Bowl before he retires, he needs to go out and get Watson.
