The Houston Texans quarterback, Deshaun Watson has also alluded to the fact that he played his last snap for the Texans last season. Both of these top quarterbacks are looking for new teams. Will one of them be the New England Patriots?

The Patriots and Matthew Stafford Scenario

The Patriots could have the assets to make a splash in the Stafford market. The Patriots have multiple assets to give up.

From Stephon Gilmore to Shaq Mason to Isaiah Wynn and the 15th overall pick there is a high likelihood that the Lions will appreciate that offer.

There are many different possibilities for the Patriots to get the 32-year-old. Negotiations for a trade could be long and grueling, but Bill Belichick could certainly send an offer that entices the Detroit Lions. It has been reported that the Patriots are the front runner for Stafford for a few reasons.

Stafford spent the last few seasons being coached under Matt Patricia. Though Patricia was fired by the Lions, he has gone back to New England in an unspecified role on defense for the New England Patriots.

The Patriots and Deshaun Watson scenario

The Patriots are clearly looking for a change. A similar issue is occurring in the Houston Texans locker room.

The Texans are reportedly leaning closer to parting ways with their quarterback, Deshaun Watson.

There are many options for the Texans to make a trade. Although Watson hasn’t said anything about the Patriots, there are still plenty of possibilities of New England finding a way into negotiations with the Texans.

Watson has highlighted ideas of going to the AFC East; however, those highlights have been made more towards the Jets than any of the other teams. Watson has said he likes Robert Saleh as the new coach.

In the past, he has discussed playing for the Patriots too, though it hasn’t been from recent reports it has been said.

The Patriots could structure a deal that might end up being more costly than that of Stafford.

What is the best option for the New England Patriots?

The Patriots should send offers for both of these quarterbacks.

Both the Lions and the Texans are open to trading with the Patriots, but which one is the better option for New England? Stafford.

A trade with the Lions seems to be more favorable for the Patriots. They might be paying more money out of the salary cap, but they would be giving up fewer assets in return for Stafford.

If trading fails, there are still a few quarterbacks in this draft class that could end up with the Patriots.

There are plenty of options right now that will allow for the Patriots to make a statement this offseason. There are many possibilities for New England.
