With Tom Brady winning yet another Super Bowl, plenty of people are taking this opportunity to criticize New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick.

Now Brady did show just how valuable he is to a team. At this point, it seems like he could make the Detroit Lions a Super Bowl contender.

More from Chowder and Champions

Plenty of people think that Brady winning a Super Bowl immediately invalidates all that Belichick has done. How on Earth could he let Brady walk?

Well, it was a complicated situation. Honestly no matter what Belichick did, Patriots fans would find a way to be upset.

New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is still the best coach in NFL history.

So it might surprise some people to learn, Belichick is still the best coach in NFL history. Just because Brady won without him doesn’t change how Belichick transformed the Patriots organization.

It might hurt some Pats fans, but letting Brady go was the smart move. He was going to leave at some point and his time of winning championships in New England came to an end. If Brady wanted to continue to compete, he needed a new team.

By letting Brady go, the Patriots were allowed to struggle and plan for the future. Now they have the 15th pick in the 2021 NFL Draft and seemed poised to draft their quarterback of the future.

If Brady was still in New England, the Patriots would have likely made the playoffs and possibly win one game.

But then they would have a terrible draft pick. They would have to give up way too much to even attempt to move up and draft a QB. The rebuild that the Patriots are currently going through would take even longer.

Let’s also look back at the 2020 season. New England didn’t do that bad. If Belichick wasn’t the coach, the Patriots would have likely had the worst season in franchise history. Cam Newton failed to be the bride QB that New England needed and key opt-outs left the defense shorthanded.

With all the obstacles dealt his way, Belichick was able to make something out of nothing. He used his vast football knowledge to craft a gameplan that made this team the best that it could be.

There is no doubt that Belichick is the greatest coach of all time. He is the greatest football mind to ever exist. He made the tough decision of letting Brady go and focus on rebuilding the organization. It’s honestly pretty selfless.

So Patriots fans can enjoy Brady’s victory while also not bashing Belichick. Fans should just realize how lucky they are and how well the organization will be set up after Belichick retires.
