The UConn Huskies shocked most of the nation by capturing the 2014 NCAA Men’s Basketball championship, defeating the Kentucky Wildcats 60-53. March Madness started off in crazy fashion after # 5 VCU was upset by # 12 Stephen F. Austin, after Desmond Haymon’s 4-point play with 3.6 seconds left sent the game into overtime. Stephen Austin managed to hold onto a slim lead and upset VCU 77-75. Another memorable upset was Stanford shocking the nation by taking out #2 seeded Kansas 60-57. Stanford was lead by Dwight Powell (who was just traded to the Mavericks), while future #1 pick Andrew Wiggins struggled and only scored 4 points. The team to beat was the UConn Huskies, lead by Shabazz Napier and Ryan Boatright. The Huskies managed to roll through former Big East rival Villanova, Michigan State, and the number 1 seed in the Southern division Florida. The Huskies met the Kentucky Wildcats at the AT&T Stadium in Dallas, which was seen by close to 80,000 people. The Huskies controlled the game throughout as Napier lead all scorers with 22 points, while recording 3 assists.
