The NHL Playoffs kicked off with the Boston Bruins matching up against their Original-6 rival Detroit Red Wings. The top seeded Bruins were favorite in the series but with the experience and impressive goaltending it was a much closer series than most thought it would be. The Red Wings stole the first game of the series on the road as they beat Boston 1-0 thanks to outstanding goaltending by Jimmy Howard and a third period goal from Pavel Datsyuk that gave the Red Wings a 1-0 series lead. The lack of offense worried Boston fans and thought that this series would be a much tougher battle than most thought. Coming into game 2 there was plenty to be concerned about especially if they went down 2-0 in the series and having to travel to Detroit. However the Bruins took care of business by dominating game 2 of the series winning 4-1, they went on to win 3 more to clinch the series. The Bruins outscored the Red Wings by a score of 14-6, Milan Lucic lead Bruins scorers with 3 goals in the series and afterwards many fans in Boston were excited that the Bruins appeared to find their stride. Even more so they were excited they had a second round date with the Montreal Canadiens.
